Document Version Control
Document Locator is our innovative document management system with integrated version control software that allows you to effectively capture, manage, share, and secure the information that powers critical business operations.
Document Locator's built-in version control automatically applies version records to each document or file, making it clear to users which version they are using. With version control, everyone knows for certain which is the most current and correct version document or file within the document management system. Version control eliminates confusion over which documents are the right ones to use, and which documents are prior, older versions.
- Version control software is integrated within the document management package, making version control an automated function.
- Version control is applied consistently across all documents and files.
- Version history tracks changes across the document life cycle.
- Version control software allows you to manage versions, version history, promote older versions, and create and edit sub-versions.
Consistent Version Control
Document Locator's integrated version control software sets a consistent standard for how documents are identified by their version, eliminating the need for ad hoc and inconsistent version references such as version numbers in file names. Every file is atomically assigned a version number as it is saved in the document management system. As changes are made, the version number is automatically incremented.
Improved Collaboration
Version control, combined with the Check-in/Check-out, approval and notifications features, improves work collaboration by keeping everyone aware of a document's status of a document. As documents are checked in, users can add version notes to identify their changes. Approval processes can determine the review and acceptance of changes. The notifications feature tells others that changes have been made.
Version History
Document Locator's version control allows you to look back at a complete version history of files and maintain an audit trail of how documents were changed over time. You can view and access previous versions, identify who made changes and when changes were made, and promote previous, older document versions to the most current version.
